EricCFD is on a distinguished road
Hello everybody

I plan to buy a new workstation to use Ansys Fluent.

Which family of Intel processors is the best for the use of Ansys Fluent? Some computer companies propose me Intel Core i9 and others Intel Xeon W. What are the differences between these processor types? When they have the same number of cores and the same frequency, how to choose which one is the “best” to run Ansys Fluent?

Thank you for your help!

The best (as in fastest time to solution) Intel CPU for Ansys Fluent is probably the Xeon Platinum 9282. It is only sold in complete servers, and only comes in pairs of 2. You probably have to pay upwards of 50000$ for one of these units.
Choosing CPUs for software like Fluent always starts with the question: how many parallel licenses do I have. Followed by: how much money can I spend.
I won't go into detail about "I9" and "Xeon W". These are labels, not CPU types. And they cover a very wide range of CPUs, from consumer mainstream to (almost) the fastest single CPU made by Intel for applications like Fluent.
