Hello,

I have ordered and received a workstation (titan computers):
Titan A475 dual AMD EPYC, 2 x AMD EPYC Milan 7413.
Based on experience and recommendations, I had asked for 16x16GB RAM configuration so that all DIMMS are populated, and with the exact same ram.

I am planning on running StarCCM+ multiphase free surface flow, of approx 30-40M cells, if that matters.

Titans decided to go ahead and populate the RAM in a 8x32GB manner, leaving 8 empty slots, instead of going 16x16GB as I requested.

What is the general feeling on this?
Is the workstation going to perform roughly similarly, or am I going to increase my computation time?

I don't like having empty slots, especially because I am certain I will never need more than 256GB RAM so there is no need for me to go 8x32GB...

Thanks for the feedback!

You should not accept the 8x32 GB because it will cut your CFD performance in half. Insist on what you asked for after explaining the reason.

Luckily, this can be fixed quite easily. They could send you the requested 16 memory modules and you will return the 8 32GB DIMMs. Replacing RAM is not complicated. If you haven't done it, look for videos on youtube.

I agree with the first sentence, of course.
But don't try to explain anything to your system integrator. That's just an invitation for them to argue back, and try to bullshit you into accepting what they sent. Or draw out the replacement process as long as possible. I don't know it your particular SI would do that, but better safe than sorry.
If you specifically ordered 16x16GB (I hope it's DDR4-3200 reg ECC), all you have to do is insist on that.
