Hello everyone,

As you can see in this Forum and new to the CFD topic, too.

I am going to write my bachelorthesis about a OpenFOAM simulation of a Barscreen used in a wastewater progress. The aim of it is to identify the energy head caused by the barscreen
After googleing for a while with no results i hoped to find some help here...

Does anyone have examples or suggestions for something like a barscreen, based on any CFD Programm?

greetings,
Peter

Hi Peter, Welcome to CFD. If your screen is fine enough you can model it using a porous zone (a 3D zone in your geometry) or porous jump (a 2D plane representing a thin layer of porosity). If its not very fine you can model the screen's wires individually. Anyway i have not much experience in openFOAM but just wanted to give you the terms "porous jump" and "porous zone" to open you up to how this problem can be modeled.

Hello Edoan,

Thank you for your fast answer!

Unfortunately I model a rather coarse screen and the company my supervisor is working with would like to show the effectivness of their new screen - so I have to use their screen geometry.

Taking porosity is still a nice idea, I can use it for finding some parameters I still need. Do you maybe have a good link to some example where this was used?

Actually that is part of my initial problem - in my literature research I couldnt find values like turbulence intesity (actually all boundary conditions), wall roughness in the canal before the screen etc.
Thats why I could use examples in any CFD Programm.

greetings,
Peter
