Hi everyone,

Trying to estimate the boundary layer thickness of a project with a Re of 5.05e6, I have the following results with the Blasius Solution:

object length : 1.83 m

laminar: (5.0*1.83)/sqrt(5.05e6) = 4.07e-3 m
turbulent: (0.37*1.83)/5.05e6^(1/5) = 3.0e-2 m

  • do we have to use the turbulent formula from Re=5.0e6 according to the standard qualification of turbulent flow?
  • there is almost a power of ten between the 2 results. Is this concurs to the reality?
Thanks
