Hello,
I was wondering what kinds of guestion regarding CFD would you ask an candidate for job in CFD? I other words, what do you think are the basic knowledge CFD practitioners should know and when is it ok to just know where to look? The hypothetical person you would be guestioning is a regular CFD analyst with say 3 years of pactice, mostly in comercial code... Thank you for your answers and I hope for interesing discussion below. T. |

It depends on the type of CFD job. If your going into development they are going to ask you more theory questions. If your going into practice (using Fluent, OpenFoam) they might ask you questions more tailored to the software.
If you applied for a developer position they could ask you about turbulence models and numerical methods. In fact I would not be surprised if they asked you like "whats the difference between uniform and nonuniform flow." |

What is the difference between a RANS/URANS analysis and DNS?
What is the difference between LES and DES? What is a Newtonian fluid? How do you select (or down select) turbulence models? What is a wall model and how does it factor into a solution? What are some of the limitations you see with CFD? What are some of it's advantages? How you would ensure your results are not mesh dependent? |
