In my latest "All About CFD..." blog post: "Some Fundamental Thoughts About Turbulence Modeling…" I've rased some thoughts/worries on the direction the engineering CFD practitioners community is headed, mostly related to the abundance of turbulence modeling approaches, and the race of commercial vendors to present the most extensive portfolio of turbulence models without presenting a clear and quantitative measure for the added value they bring to our description of physics and its mapping to engineering.
I've stressed that my intention was not to portray myself as a pessimist or as an opposer to turbulence modeling. On the contrary. It actually seems that turbulence models are succeeding in providing engineering value way beyond expected from their theoretical range of applicability…
My thoughts lead me to believe that due to turbulence being nutritiously hard to predict and due to the very limited theoretical range of applicability of turbulence modeling approaches it is much preferable to deeply understand turbulence modeling to its basic constituents before admiring the abundance of choices. This is partly why I blog about it...
Here's my two cents in "Turbulence Modeling - The Gist"
