I am reading this paper https://www.semanticscholar.org/pape...2eb89a43e272fa .
I have a question: in the so called grid filter (Eq (3)), if the filter is implicit, like in FDS, $\bar{f}(x)$ became a spatial mean?

In general, if not specified differently, the assumed LES filter is always a local spatial operator, no matter either explicit or implicit filtering is.

The spatial mean is different, it is a statistical operation, it implies a spatial integration along one or more dimensions of the domain.
