HTang is on a distinguished road
In LBM, the velocity discretized Boltzmann equation uses a set of velocities which all have 1 (or close to 1) (eg. in D2Q9). We know that the particles in a fluid has a spectrum of velocity. Velocity may range from (-infinity, +infinity). How can we justify only using a few velocities to represent the entire velocity spectrum?

Does anybody see any mathematical justification for the velocity discretization in LBM.
