Hello, Can anyone please help me out. I am trying to simulate flow of blood in arteries including the flow of the red blood cells also. Is it normal to model the red blood cells as solids suspended in the blood plasma(liquid?) If so where can one get the material properties etc for red blood cells and blood plasma. Also, I am told that blood is modeled as a Carreau fluid. Where can I find details of the Carreau parameters for blood. Also any hints and tips are useful e.g. boundary conditions for artery inlet etc. Please I am very desperate!! Thanks anybody out there

The problem of moving RBCs through arteries has been solved by elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication theory. See:
R. Kamm, "Cellular Fluid Mechanics", Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics, 2002. and M. J. Lighthill, "Pressure forcing of tightly fitting pellets along fluid-filled elastic tubes", JFM, 1968. |

A google "images" search using "blood flow cfd" got some hits that should be useful.

"Perspectives in Fluid Dynamics" by GK Batchelor contains some excellent explanation of the problem.
