Hello guys:

Now I am focusing on the laminar flow. I want to know the range of the shear stress under various conditions, such as separation. Does any book or references talk about it?

Thanks a lot for your nice help!

Wall Shear Stress is a linear product of the kinematic viscosity of the fluid and the velocity gradient normal to the wall. It is a sign variable function, and zero crossings usually correspond to separation.

It's best to understand this phenomenon in the boundary layer context. Several books on fluid dynamics discuss the boundary layer on a flat plate and a circular cylinder. An easy to read account is in Kundu,

Hi noName,

Thank you very much! I will check that book.

From the definition of wall shear stress, it may be the function of Re number. Can I ask you one more question? How big will the wall shear stress be if Re=1? -0.5, 0.9, or any other values?

Thanks a lot!

In case your talking about flat plate, then wall shear can be found as : wall shear stress = (0.644/sqrt(Re_x))*(0.5*rho*U*U)

u may refer viscous fluid flow by frank white or any other text.
