Toying around and finding some old files, here is an interesting comparison between two meshes, one generated in Gmsh and second one generated in Pointwise.

What needs to be said, in Gmsh I did not play with seed much. For this reason, you will notice some minor refinements in Pointwise mesh. In both cases, the CAD outline was imported in STEP file.

Both results are for OpenFOAM potentialFoam solver. Vertical inflow velocity of 10 m/s from the bottom of the domain with outlet boundary at the end of the conduct. The presented results are for velocity field. Both domains show maximum corner singled cell concentrated velocity of 38 m/s.

This is quite a simple geometry, nonetheless, it shows those two meshing packages in some way do not stand out from each other. It must be noticed the Gmsh mesh cell count is 1/3.7 times smaller from the Pointwise mesh, however, this could be possibly adjusted through meshing options. FYI: Before it turned out to be a test case, the Gmsh grid was suppose to be coarser.

The plots were prepared in ParaView. If you have any other suggestions and/or other observations please contribute to the topic.

PS. Sorry the graphic resolution is not the best, but this is all the forum allowed me to do.

For the record, a comparison between the volume grid resolutions.
