I finish the installation of OpenFOAM for windows v1606 using the latest installation file from:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ope...ler_v1606+.exe However, when I click the "OF_Create_Env" shortcut on desktop, i got the error message (see image 01 below) informing me the access to the registry key "...PowerShell" is denied, and I can't start the OpenFOAM Containerized Windows Version. If I click the "OpenFOAM_Start" shortcut on desktop, I get another error (see image 02), saying "error setting up host..." Both shortcuts are executed as admin. Can you kindly advise how to solve the two problems? Thank you very much! |

Hi Oat
i) Basically there are two steps i.e creating container which OF_Create_Env does and it did sucessfully. Red message are just warning and can be ignored. ii) OpenFOAM_Start . However gives error. Try following a) Right click over Virtual box as administrator and see whether "default" is running. If yes, please close it b) Again Right click over Virtual box as normal user and see whether default is running. If yes, close. c) Now click on OpenFOAM_start as normal use. (You need not to run it as admin ) and see whether it works |

Thank you very much, pgh! I followed your advice: 1. the "default" is actually running when opennning VirtualBox as Non-administrator, and I closed it 2. the the "default" is NOT running when opennning VirtualBox as administrator 3. run "OpenFOAM_Start" as normal user, a lot of red stuff flash quickly in the terminal window before it closes quickly 4. run "OpenFOAM_Start" as administrator, and not it works So, I'm not sure why running OpenFOAM_Start as normal user is not working. Hope you can advise! |

Hi Joe
"4. run "OpenFOAM_Start" as administrator, and not it works " Sorry but a bit confusing . You are able to run "OpenFOAM_Start" as administrator, right ? i.e you have terminal with OpenFOAM environment set and can run tutorial . |

Thank you very much, pgh! I apologize for the typo in point 4 of my reply. It should be "... and now it works", i.e. I get OpenFOAM up and running now following your suggestions. My question is why I cannot run OpenFOAM as normal user, i.e. without running the program as administrator. Thank you very much, again, for your kind help! and Looking forward to your advice! |

Hi Joe
I think first time you click on OF_Create_Env as administrator , so that container created have admin right over it . Ideally it should not matter for running container but somehow it has effect on your system. The other option if you want to try is as follow (Aim is to create container with normal permission ) i) Close all container i.e type exit (twice from terminal to allow closure of terminal. ii) check virtual box (default is running or close and close it i.e using both admin as normal user) ii) click on docker-terminal tool box ,and then type docker ps -a( it will show name of container id as well nam) iii) docker rm -f $containerID or docker rm -f containername iv)Once this is done . exit the terminal and click on OF_ENV_Create again as normal user . After ward you should be able to run container without admin rights |

Dear pgh, thank you very much for your detailed advices! I had a completely fresh installation of the latest OpenFOAM v1606 on my home computer, and it seems there is no problem during the entire process, and I can run OpenFOAM as normal user (I'm the only user of my own computer and the admin of my computer, too.) I was installing OpenFOAM on my office computer as a user logging in a domain when I encountered the problem as posted at the top of this post. I wonder if this "domain login user" is the cause of the problem. |

It is hard to say . But yes. if you have two account i.e admin and user separate one . Then it is better to install using user login and admin should assign admin right to that user login .
