Hi all,

I want to simulate the impact of a new construction in a canal river (two concrete piles of a new hydroelectricplant).

As I am very newbie to this, i've designed a simple 2d geometry with the banks of the canal and a constant height. See png file attached. I want to use the incompressible solver with a simple boundary conditions (constant velocity at the inlet).

i want to import my mesh in OpenFoam. I have both .stl and .obj format, exported from Freecad.

I dont know really how to import my file. I have tried this :
- convert obj file to vtk file with SurfaceConvert
- import with vtkUnstructuredToFoam file.vtk

in the polymesh folder I have only points. The faces, boundary and other files are void. If I do a surfaceCheck it says :

Quote:
Statistics:
Triangles : 372
Vertices : 184
Bounding Box : (5.01968e+008 1.14846e+008 0) (5.02106e+008 1.14943e+008 1000)
What am I missing ?

Thanks for any advice

Hi 432Hz,

you can't use the STL/OBJ file directly, you have to create a proper mesh with something like snappyHexMesh (and blockMesh). Use your favorite search engine and you'll find a lot of information and tutorials.

Kind regards,
