Hi There,
I am new to OpenFoam and had a question on its post processing: I know that we can generate sample surfaces from the saved 3-D data by running the sampleDict. Those surfaces then will be stored in separate folders inside the postprocessing. Now: 1-How can we make those extracted surfaces readable by tecplot? I can only see some columns of data (x,y,z,u,v,w for example) and since the mesh is not fully structured, we can not simply make them readable by tecplot by adding a few header lines. (the command foamToTecplot360 only make the 3D stored data readable by tecplot. We probably need something similar for the surfaces) 2-Assuming that step one is done, is there any specific way to copy them all in one single folder with sequenced names so we can more easily read them by tecplot? I'd appreciate your help. |

Export the surfaces as text files and use Tecplots "General Text Loader" followed by a triangulation, or export the surfaces to Ensight format.

I also found another way:
exporting full 3D snapshot (using foamtotecplot) and extracting the plane just by tecplot using interpolation |

Dear Saeedi,
could you please elaborate on this "exporting full 3D snapshot (using foamtotecplot)" I thinks so foamtotecplot is not availaible for openfoam after openfoam-1.6, as tecplot has developed its own FEA openFoam loader. problem with this loader is that zones for every patch and internal mesh for all timesteps are generated. One cannot apply any time-averaging (tecplot equations ) or extraction of planes before closing or deleting many unwanted zones If you have any solution for this please help Thanks in advance |
