Hi All,

In my case, the domain is 3D ring and at the bottom of this ring, it has six inlet. As an initial simulation, I would like to simulate one of them (one inlet and its downstream regions) first. Then map the data to other five. In openfoam, is it possible to do this kind of mapping? mapFields cannot do this, it seems.

Anybody knows to do that? Thank you so much.

Hello,

at least one way to do this is to create multiple copies of the case folder and edit each one of them separately with moveMesh or rotateMesh. Move each of the copies to correct location in the complete geometry, for example turn first copy 60 degrees and the second 120 degrees etc. After this use a series of mergeMeshes (mesh1 with mesh2 and the merged mesh12 with mesh3 etc.). You might want to remove the periodic patches when the geometry is complete. Also you might need to use some changeDictionary to change boundary conditions for the other applications to work. transformPoints can also be necessary after repositioning your mesh but at this point I don't remember whether it's needed or not.

If you do not need the complete geometry just skip the merging part.

This is a pretty heavy and straightforward way to do this and I don't know if there are better ways but at least I have used it succesfully in the past initializing a transient centrifugal pump simulation with stationary periodic geometry.

Best regards,
Antti
