Hi everyone

I'm setting up a case with a mesh that was previously used in Fluent, and I'm now trying to recreate the simulation in OpenFOAM. The mesh layout is quite common for turbomachinery applications, but I'm struggling to find appropriate boundary conditions in OpenFOAM.

Iv'e attached a simple sketch of what the mesh layout is. There are three regions, region 1 and 3 being stationary and region 2 containing the turbine blade and rotating around the x-axis. My problem is that I'm not sure what boundary conditions to use on the interfaces between region 1 and 2, and between region 2 and 3. I'm told it was possible in Fluent to define repeating boundaries, so that region 2 could do full rotations through the domain even when it's not physically adjacent to the inlet and exit regions. The case would behave as if each mesh region was repeated like a cylinder around the x-axis, which allowed for smaller mesh domains.

I was wondering if anyone has encountered a similar boundary condition in OpenFOAM, or had any suggestions as to what could work? I've made some attempts with AMI and ACMI, but could use a second opinion on the easiest way of implementing this.

I hope my description of the setup makes sense, and thank you for your time!

Amanda
