What's the meaning of 'w' in 'wmake'?

This might be a silly question.
Just curious about the meaning of this fantastic building tool. What is the meaning of 'w' in 'wmake'? Does it mean that "WellerMake"? or "wyldckatMake"? I do believe there is a meaning under this character. Thanks for sharing if you know this point.
