Hello all,

I am having a very big problem with OpenFoam. I’m new to OpenFoam and have installed version 2.0 on linux (Ubuntu 16.04). I have never run a simple simulation since the installation. I’m always having “command not found” and decided to go for the simplest simulation in OpenFoam. Now I’m getting permission denied from a tutorial I copied (incompressible/simpleFoam/airFoil2D) into a working folder. Below is the command error from my computer. Please is there anyone in the house that can help me? Please I need reply urgently. I'm really getting frustrated : (

Quick answer: I have not idea if you managed to solve this, but unfortunately I was only able to come around here today.

The problem is that the command you used was utterly wrong. It should have been something like this:

cp -r $FOAM_TUTORIALS/incompressible/simpleFoam/airFoil2D ./
What you wrote was this:

cp -r $airFoil2D/* ./
which was translated to:
Code:
cp -r /* ./
because the environment variable "airFoil2D" does not exist, so "$airFoil2D" was translated to an empty string... which was why it tried to copy everything from "/boot" and "/dev" and so on.

If you still remember what happened back then, which instructions were you following?

Thanks so much wyldckat and others for your good feedback. I was able to resolve the problem.

As a new user, I've god a present challenge. I tried running pyrolysis and ablation on OpenFoam using one of the tutorial examples.. The blockMesh runs perfectly but the calculations refused to proceed. I tried all possible diagnostics but the error persists. Please what can I do? Any help from the house will be highly appreciated. Thanks everyone in advance. Below is the error command.

Quick answer: The error message is telling you this:

Which means that the name "coupledWallTmp" is missing from the file "0/p".

Quick answer: Not enough information to help you. For example, without seeing the contents of the file "p", how can we deduce what exactly is wrong, with just the error message? The best I can indicate is that the error message is telling you that there is a left or right bracket --> { } <-- that is placed in the wrong place...

Quick answer: I've edited your post to use "[CODE]" markers. You should now be able to see that there is a large block of text that is placed in a very wrong place. Namely these lines:

Quick answer: OK, I didn't notice this myself before, but remember the blocks that were outside of the "boundaryField" block? Well, they are not meant to be placed there.

What I mean is that this:

That block is usually meant to be placed inside the "topoSetDict" file.
I have no idea which tutorial you are trying to follow or what you are trying to do.
