Hi all,

I am wondering if one of you know the limitations to the MRF in comparison to the AMI usage. As far as I know, the MRF/SRF can be used for high RPM`s while for low RPM`s it will not give the correct results, right? Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks in advance. If one can give some pdf / paper / slides - would be nice.

Hi Tobias,

Sorry, no maths/papers, just thoughts:

I think it also depends on the number of blades in the rotating zone, the orientation of the flow with respect to the axis of rotation and in a way to the application. If it is the driving force of the simulation, or if it is a part of the domain (e.g. automotive case with open wheels vs. propeller). I think if you narrow down the application maybe you can discuss high vs low rpm, which basically boils down to some kind of temporal separation of scales (flow passage time versus blade passage time). Probably also depends on what kind of turbulence model you would like to use. MRF with LES does not directly make much sense to me.

Regards,
Tom
