Hello,
I am using the interFoam for dam breaks. At the minute I have a long domain separated in two and there is some overlap in the x-direction. I have already run model 1 which has the water upstream with an open boundary on the right hand side. I want to use the outlet conditions from my model 1 and use them as inlet for model 2 and I was told I can use MapFields to get this. Is this the case? I tried to use the user guide's explanation mapFields <source dir> -consistent but I guess it is not consistent in my case and from the instructions I don't understand how to achieve it.Do I need MapFieldDict? Can anyone advice? ![]() Many thanks, Ioanna |

Hey Ioanne,
You can use the sample Utility in combination with the time/varying BC (Time-varying boundary condition) if you have the same cells at the inlet or use the mapFields to interplolate the fields. Concerning the mapFields you have to keep in mind at least 2 things: - in your 0 directory, the patches must match with your constant/polyMesh/boundary patches - define the write cutting patches in your mapFieldsDict Beside, make sure, that your mesh cuts the source case at the write position. Best regards, Sebastian |

Take a look at these threads [1] [2] as they explain the usage of mapFields. |

Dear Robert, I apologise for the late reply, I was not notified of your reply. When I say overlap what I mean is. Imagine you are modelling a 20m long flume in 2D so here my model 1 for the x direction would be from x=0 to x=10m and then model 2 would be from x=9m to x=20m. So I am trying to overlap that boundary at x=9m and use output from model 1 as input for model 2. Does this make sense? Do you thing mapFields would work here as well? Many thanks, Ioanna |

Dear Sebastian, Thank you for your reply and I apologise for my late answer. I agree, with what you are saying but I cannot seem to make it work for my case. Do you know of any simple tutorial on this that I can follow? On how to properly use this utility. Many thanks, Ioanna |
