Hi,

I am using SimpleFoam solver for simulating the hydrodynamics of a stirred tank.
when i run the simulation it solves for Ux,Uz and not for Uy..!!!

The log is as follows:

//================================================== =

smoothSolver: Solving for Ux, Initial residual = 1.23763e-06, Final residual = 3.59452e-08, No Iterations 2
smoothSolver: Solving for Uz, Initial residual = 1.85972e-06, Final residual = 5.40557e-08, No Iterations 2
GAMG: Solving for p, Initial residual = 7.41084e-06, Final residual = 3.21887e-07, No Iterations 3
GAMG: Solving for p, Initial residual = 4.16623e-07, Final residual = 1.45348e-08, No Iterations 4
time step continuity errors : sum local = 1.06738e-07, global = 4.21417e-18, cumulative = -7.87406e-16
smoothSolver: Solving for epsilon, Initial residual = 3.45932e-06, Final residual = 9.5442e-08, No Iterations 2
smoothSolver: Solving for k, Initial residual = 4.62608e-06, Final residual = 1.32595e-07, No Iterations 2
ExecutionTime = 116599 s ClockTime = 116606 s
//================================================== =======
There seems to be no problem in geometry or meshing, i ran the checkmesh utility which confirmed the same

Kindly help in resolving this issue, as wells as in stating the reason.

Thanks in advance..!!

i had once this problem, i gave the patch numbering wrongly. check your blockMesh.

I have not used block mesh to create any face or patch.
I used block mesh utility to define a cube with all faces belonging to default faces
And used snappyHexMesh utility to create my desired geometry

I've resolved the issue..!!

I created a tank of 3000 mm high, but i wanted to simulate only 2600 mm (liquid height in the tank).
I used blockmesh to create a block of height 2600mm (Y direction ), so that the geometry would get cutoff in the snappyHexMesh utility. This posed a problem and resulted in not solving for Uy.

Now i am simulating for a complete geometry and iam not facing any issues.

I highly welcome any insights on the problem..!!
