Hi everyone,

greetings.

I am trying to simulate continuous density stratified flow(like seawater). I use the interFoam solver and initializ the internal field using codestream. I set the alpha in the field to vary linearly from 0 to 1 in the depth direction, with alpha=0 corresponding to rho=1000 and alpha=1 corresponding to rho=1030. Thus, the corresponding density varies from 1000 to 1030 from top to bottom, and the initial alpha field, initial density field, and boundary conditions are set as shown in the figure 1. Figure 1 shows T=0s.

Due to the absence of other disturbance conditions in the calculation area, the calculation results should not differ significantly from the initial field. But my simulation results showed that the alpha and density fields became disordered and gradually approached the situation of only two-phase flow (as shown in the figure 2 and figure 3). Figure 2 and figure 3 show T=10s and T=50s respectively.

I want to know if the interFoam solver can simulate continuous density stratified flow. and if so, how can I modify the relevant settings to improve the simulation results. If interFoam is not suitable for this type of problem, is there a better solution in OpenFoam.

Any help is appreciated!
