Hello Everyone,


I am using OpenFoam 4.1 version and I want to know which solver is suitable for my case.



I want to solve for two incompressible, immiscible, isothermal fluids with high density ratio. The liquid and gas phase are to be treated in eulerian-eulerian manner but if the break up drop become very small (i.e. if it is in secondary breakup regime) Depending on the volume of the drop it is to be treated in lagrangian manner.


Is there any existing solver for such cases ?

Hi kk415,

As far as I know if you want to simulate droplet breakup phenomenon, Eulerian-Lagrangian method is the only choice, which you can refer to sprayFoam solver.

In addition, I am also looking for a solver for investigating primary and secondary breakup, since the the breakup model in sprayFoam is defined as secondary breakup while atomization model is primary breakup.

If you have more information or question, feel free to propose it and we may have a further discussion.

As far as I know, sprayFoam uses an inlet condition for initialization of droplets. what if the location of the droplets is not known a priority. The generation of the parcels should be from the conversion of Eulerian drops to lagrangian drops. Fluent does this in its new version.

Hi Krishna,

I checked the sprayCloudProperties, I presume the parcels(groups of droplet) are injected as source term instead of using inlet condition? Since I am able to impose the droplet injection with arbitrary location in the computational domain

I am also interested in doing eulerian-eulerian method either, would you mind if you tell me in which version of fluent and what solver that i can realize it?

Check out this youtube video link which is the coupled VOF-DPM modelling in Fluent. I don't know at this moment which version of Fluent it is. But it shows exactly the methodology I am looking for.
