Hey everyone!

i am working on a chtMultiRegionFoam case. I am using version 9 and my mesh is imported from Ansys fluent.
The case itself is a single heat exchanger plate with two surrounding fluid volumes. After running i noticed no change in temperature. Further testing and comparing with the shell and tube heat exchanger showed that my case has for each domain (fluid and solid) a 'interior *Region* -faceZone' this region spans my complete domain and paraview has substantial problems displaying it. In addition my mapped walls don't have a second entry as faceZones as the shell and tube heat exchanger example.
I suspect this could be the reason why i don't have any change in temperature between the inlet and outlet. The boundary conditions are pretty much the same as in the example.

My questions are:
Is this additional faceZone really problemtic?
Can i resolve this even though fluent3DMeshToFoam doesn't have an option to write sets?
If so, would topoSet be sufficient?

I hope somebody can help me, this would complete my project and really help me out a lot!

You imported your mesh and split it into different regions?

How many polyMesh folders do you have?

Please post the boundary file inside each one of those.

Hi,

i indeed split the mesh regions with the command splitMeshRegions '-cellZonesOnly -overwrite'.
I have for the three regions individual polyMesh folders, which have the boundary files i have attached to this post.
I renamed them to hopefully add clarity to which region they belong.

Thank you!

In addition i noticed that my files for faceZones are for each zone completely empty. Could this be the mistake i made?

Just to be sure....there are 3 mesh folders...

fluidcold/polyMesh
fluidhot/polyMesh
plate/polyMesh

but no

constant/polyMesh?
Because that would be the unsplit mesh and could be problematic in postProcessing with paraview since it would show up but wouldn't have results to display.

you are displaying them with paraFoam -builtin? Because faceZones shouldn'r really show up. But nevertheless this wouldn't be a problem.

This should be absolutly fine. The meshes look good to me. Hence the temperature is likely in your boundary condition definitions.

Hey,

i do have a folder constant/polymesh. The boundary file, as well as the temperature boundary definitions are attached to my reply.

I do display them with paraFoam, yes. But the main decision of the functionality is made with functions in my control dict that build a difference between the Area average temperature at the inlet and the outlet, but the log from my calculation shows no real difference between the inlet and outlet, which is troubling me, but also matches the visual results in paraview

I switched the mesh import to the regular fluentToFoam command and wrote the sets, as well as setting the mapped walls to faceZones, with no further progress. Considering how big the fluent mesh is am not able to acutally upload the whole case. But i attached the log of the mesh operations and some of the files i used to make changes to the mesh.
