Continue a simulation with modifications

Hello everyone,

I recently found that it is possible to continue a stopped simulation in OpenFOAM, starting from the last timestep generated :

I would like to continue my simulation, but this time, with some modifications. For exemple, you have a pipe and you want to model the wind behaviour based on the section profile in the last part of the pipe. The behaviour of the wind in the first part of the pipe will always remain the same, and running multiple times this beginning of the simulation (for each end of the pipe) is really a waste of time.

In FEM softwares, you are usually able to run the first part and set it as a calculation base, and then run all the different scenarios starting from this base (you don't need to re-run the base eash time). This is how it works in LS-DYNA for exemple :

Does anyone know if it is possible on OpenFOAM to run a simulation for some time, stop it, make geometry modifications, and continue the simulation ? I tried it but I end up with geometry errors.

Hi,

When I needed to run a case with a different mesh resolution or with a longer domain, I used mapFields to set the initial conditions as the final step of a "base-case" (working with OpenFOAM v-2012 by ESIgroup).

You may have a look on that, I am not sure if this would cause problems at the beginning in terms of stability.
