Hello everyone,
I am quite new to CFD simulations and also in this forum. So I hope I describe everything correctly and post in the correct place. Due to a big interest I started learning OpenFoam on my own during my free time about one year ago. So my learning curve is quite slow but this Forum already helps a lot. So a big thank you! Here something about my case: I am simulating a mixing tank with two agitators (coaxial mixing). One is a scraper or a similar kind of anchor agitator which is closed to the vessel wall. The other is an inner or central agitator. For this system my goal is to simulate the characteristic Ne-Re curve. My problem: Due to the design of this mixing system I cannot define the rotation zone as a simple cylindrical shape. Thus I tried to create a zone from a rotated spline that I draw myself. See attachment for my rotation zone result. This is working fine for a steady state MRF simulation. But my sliding mesh simulation crashes with the following: “unable to set target face for source face” I also set up a case with only the central agitator and a simple cylindrical AMI. This is working, which is why I guess my case set up is correct in general. I think with the message the connection between the AMI patches crashes? May I have to apply a higher refinement? Is it in general possible to create an AMI zone with this kind of complex shape or do I have to use overset meshes when I want to run unsteady simulations? AMI_Patch.jpg |

Are there any ideas or recommendations?
