I have a 3D mesh for a group of hexagonal prisms (see attached picture) with an associated volScalarField.

I need to retrieve a set of axially-averaged values for this volScalarField over the whole mesh. So I want to split the mesh into axial slices (ideally ten) and find the average value for each slice.

I can't find how to do this, does anyone know if there is a way?
