2D adaptive mesh refinement

Hello FOAMers,

I'm curious about the availability of adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) for two-dimensional cases in OpenFOAM. Although I've observed it functioning well for the 2D dambreak case, there seem to be mixed opinions online. Some claim it's available and functional, while others suggest that it's accurate only for 3D cases, implying that what I've seen in 2D might not be accurate.

Could someone please confirm if AMR for 2D cases functions accurately? And, does it also work for axisymmetric cases as well?

Hello AnzarMark1,

There is a dynamicAMR library for both 2D and 3D meshes available with OpenFOAM, created by Henning Scheufler - https://github.com/HenningScheufler/multiDimAMR

I have been able to work with AMR in both 2D and 3D for multiphase cases.

With regards to axisymmetric cases, I have not been fully satisfied with the results obtained from the available AMR. As you might be aware, we use wedge blocks to create axisymmetric simulations in OpenFOAM. The AMR algorithm does not refine the cells that have one side along the axis line of the wedge geometry.
