What information in written in phi

Hello,

I set up a case with icoFoam. There is no file "phi" in the folder 0.

After running icoFoam the time folders contain a "phi" file. The units indicate a flux. If that is the case, why is it done? I mean, I already have the information about U, so I don't see the need for it since it has the mesh sizes.

Phi contains face fluxes. At the start of the simulation, if not found, any solver computes it interpolating cell values to the face.
If you want to restart a simulation, however, is better to keep it.
