hi all,

i was trying to simulate the ahmed body case with openfoam recently, and no matter how i changed the mesh (inflation/boundary layer thickness, boundary layer cell count, mesh refinement with boxes ...) i could not reach the drag values reported by Ahmed et al. with kOmegaSST and kOmega2006 turbulence models (did not test any other model).

so i did a literature review and searched for publications in which openfoam was used for the ahmed body case. my findings are attached as a screenshot.

as one can see, no publication is consistent with the drag value reported in Ahmed et al.

so i wonder, if it is worth still trying to tweak the numerics to reach the reported values by Ahmed et al. or if the state-of-the-art is not sufficient.

i have attached the full literature review i found. and also the plot showing experimental cd value versus simulation results. as one can see, the results are scattered with deviations up to +50%.

i could match cd value within a couple percent for the ahmed body (25°), drivaer fastback and drivaer estateback with the same numerics, according to fluent user guide, these should be more accurate. i could not match cd with standard numerics.

(side note: i used k-omega-sst as turbulence model)

I know. I subscribed to get the tutorial case, because one needs to do that. Unfortunately i did never get the tutorial case. Instead i got tons of emails and ads from that, so i unsubscribed.
Do you have it? If yes, how did you get it?
