Default Gambit Axisymmetric Neutral File Problem

Hello,

I am trying to convert an axisymmetric mesh from a Gambit mesh to OpenFoam. I have created a wedge-shaped 3-D model of a nozzle in Gambit, and have created all the 2D boundaries: inlet, outlet, frontAndBack, and top (= 5 degree curved outer surface of the nozzle). I also created a 1D boundary called "axis" from the edges along the axis of symmetry.

However, when I export a neutral file (*.neu) from Gambit (solver set to "generic") to convert to OpenFoam, it does not export the axis boundary element properly, and gives an error "Boundary entity axis does not contain any valid entity and is not written." The .neu file created has all the other boundaries defined, but not axis.

Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Sandy

My Gambit axisymmetric geometry did not include the 1D axial boundary. Conversion to OF and simulation went fine. So you may want to delete that boundary and proceed without it.

Hi Mirko,

Thanks for your reply, and sorry to take so long getting back to you. I will give your suggestion a try, but I think that is where I started, with no 1-D boundary along the axis. I'll have to check.

Cheers,
Sandy

Hi, Mirko!

How do you convert a gambit mesh to OpenFOAM axisymmetric mesh? Is your gambit mesh a wedge-shaped 3-D mesh or a 2-D mesh?

Kind regards,
Peter
