[General] projected area of STL file and rotation with python

Hey there,

I am very new to this software and would appreciate any tips or pointers in the right direction.

I want to load an stl file of a 3-d object and find the projected area on a certain plane. I would then like to rotate the object about each axis and determine the projected area.

Please help!!

Can you open the file? ParaView should be able to open it.

You can examine a certain plain of the object with the Slice filter.

The rotation of the object can be done in the advanced properties (Transforming section -> Orientation) of the object or with the Transform filter (Rotate / Orientation).

A good way to start working with ParaView is to go through this tutorial:

ParaView is well explained there and a lot of small exercises teach you the practical use of ParaView.
