Following the UserGuide.pdf I successfully ran the "cavity" tutorial. However, right clicking on the "cavity" folder and selecting Foam Utilities->postProcessing->graphics->paraFoam (inferred as the right thing to do to run paraFoam on the cavity case), and then clicking on "Execute" in the resulting window, gives me a brief splash graphic from "paraView", which then is replaced by an alert window saying simpl "Application paraFoam (pid ....) finished successfully. Clicking on that alert window's "OK" simply dismisses it, returning control to the window with the execute button.

Why don't you simply run paraFoam from the command line?
paraFoam <root> cavity Where <root> should be replaced with the path to the icoFoam directory (typically one level below the cavity directory). |

This looks like an Mesa/OpenGL problem. Are you using the binary provided on the OpenFOAM webpage or did you try building paraFoam yourself?

OK. A little googling showed me this page which proposes a solution to this problem:
LD_PRELOAD=/opt/Mesa/lib/libGL.so I think this would require rebuilding paraview, but I could be utterly wrong. Check the Nvidia section toward the bottom of this[1] page. [1] http://www.paraview.org/Wiki/User_talk:Mathieu |

James, can I ask if this suggestion by pUI above actually worked.
I am a new OpenFoam user and encountered the same problem, with paraview and paraFoam crashing and reporting the identical error you have reported. Any help would be appreciated regarding how this was resolved if at all. Cheers Shaun.D |
