I don't quite seem to understand the hole-cutting process. I created a simple wing and flap example inside a wind tunnel. I created the surface domains the same way I would for a structured grid, except i added an extra domain at each domain intersection to handle the overlap. I then created the structured blocks by extrusion in Pointwise. I then created the tunnel walls using control points on the wing and flap and extending the box out to the length of the test section. I set the boundary conditions using OVERFLOW as the designated solver so that the wing and flap had viscous wall boundaries and the tunnel was an inviscid wall boundary. I set PEGASUS to cut the holes and it ran with no errors, except it did not cut any holes. It was my understanding that if I set a solid wall boundary, the hole-cutter (PEGASUS) would blank out points from the tunnel block that were inside the wall I set in the boundary condition but that did not happen. I also did no blank out blocks from the wing that intersected the flap nor did it blank out blocks on the flap that intersect the wing
I have been using structured and unstructured grids for a long time and keep hearing how overset grids were "simpler". Is there a simple example someone can point me to online that I can load into Pointwise to see how to set up the case? |
