Hi

I have been trying to generate a mesh around a cylinder in a cuboid domain and whenever I generate the unstructured grid using build farfield feature it takes a really unusually long time for pointwise to get it done. My system has 16 threads and 64 GiB RAM. For voxel once or twice even after 24 hours it was still running...

However when I build the block first and initialize the block using grid>solve it takes much less time for pointwise to get it down.

I am wondering why is it like this...

Eventually I wanna generate a grid that exceeds 500 million cells and get close to 1 billion cells, so I am really wondering what kinda system I'm gonna have to use to be able to do that. Appreciate your time and advice.

Best,
Pay

Dear Pay,

Do you have an example file that illustrates these long block timings? If so, I would encourage you to reach out to support@pointwise.com. There are several different factors that could be coming into play that might affect your run times. If we can take a look at your case, we can work to pinpoint what's going on and help you out.

Thanks!

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna send you over the pw file to the aforementioned email address. Thank you very much for the support.

I assume the problem is RAM! But you may take a look and figure it out.

Best,
Pay
