Wrong! It was developed on Unix and later on Linux and ported to windows with lots of problems.

I experienced the same problem. I was also running on windows (XP). However, I didn't try wih unix, but studied my system as two different systems, which is not good but sufficent for what I had to do. In your case, it would be studiing the influence of the air on the {walls and water without buoyancy}, and then creating a system with the {walls and water with buoyancy} ith the temperature given before as boudary conditions for the walls. (for me when the heat tranfert worked when I just have a wall and the water with buoyancy). Regards Mike

Well, I don't really feel like installing Linux!! Thanks for all, William, I'll keep you up to date with the other version I'll use.
Mike thanks too, but I need a rather accurate solution... and my design is actually not as simple as the two walls I sent in the .mdl file...so I can't really put my bondary condition by hand reasonnnably Laure |

Hi Laure, I've just tried running your model on both Linux and Windows machines. The only thing I did to your model was switch on buoyancy for the material no 5 and it worked just fine as William mentioned. I've tried it with 3.22 and 3.24 versions. How do you reckon it doesn't work?

I would recommend you to go to your local library and fetch yourself Incropera's textbook on heat and mass transfer. Try to guess what should be the results using 1D unsteady conduction.
If the heat flux from air to water is so low as it is with your case, you cannot expect the water temperature to rise too fast. If you cannot see any temperature variation in the water part of the computational domain, what about selecting the appropriate cell type and then plotting the temperature field (load,,$cset,news,type,5$cplo$getc,t$popt,cont$rep l). Have you tried to look at .info file, it might be worthy. There is always information about heat fluxes passing among the materials (I downloaded your case; did no changes but run it). Another way to see that there is something going on with all the materials is look at .run file, which is actually being displayed while the simulation is running. The last column of the numbers shows temperatures at monitoring locations for each material. Temperatures change for both steel materials immediately and for the water at timestep 37. Try to change the air to water, decrease its temperature at the inlet to say 350 K, and run it. You'll notice that it'll work. |
