Hello everyone.
I am interested in knowing if any users have used any of the following turbulence models (a. komega sst model, b. v2f model) to predict wall heat transfer coefficients for bench mark problems such as a) jet impinging on a flat plate, b) flow through a sudden expansion. Specifically, I am interested in STAR-CD code performance with the above turbulence model options as implemented in their marketed versions. If any reader wishes to share their experience, I would appreciate it. Thanks Regards PRC |

I have not used in Star-CD but have explored these two models in Fluent for a simpler case of flow through a rectangular channel (aspect ratio of 4:1). My interest was to know the accuracy of the heat transfer co-efficients predicted by these models. Used same grid and other conditions for both the models. An unstructured hybrid grid with prismatic cells near the boundary and tetrahedral in rest of the volume was used. And the results obtained from the two runs were compared with the well known D-B correlation for Nusselt number. Max Y+ was shown to be in an acceptable range of 1-3. V2F predictions looked better overall with an accuracy upto 5-10% (compared 15-20% by SST) in the fully developed region. But I was not satisfied by the predictions made by wither of them in the entrance region. In the entrance region, both of them were underpredicting heavily. V2f was better there too.
