modeling flow through a filter medium

Hi, I am trying to simulate flow through a filter medium which goes into an application. I donot know the pressure drop across it. I have 2 queries in this regard.
1. Can we model a part of the filter medium (say 20 rectangular slots or so), apply symmetry boundary and still get the pressure drop value ? Will it be the same as opposed to 4000 solots for example?? 2. Is CFD required for this or can this be and if so can validated with hand calculations ? Any comments will be highly appreciated. Thanks. |
