I have installed STAR-CCM+ 5.06 on a fresh CentOS 5.5 install.
The installation seemed to go ok, but trying to create (or open) a project causes segmentation fault. The output in StarCCM+ shows: Code:
Starting local server: /opt/starccm/starccm+5.06.010/star/bin/starccm+ -server /opt/starccm/starccm+5.06.010/star/bin/starenv: line 1253: 17329 Minnesegmentsfeil "$@" I have tried serial and parallell processing, but nothing works. Any ideas? Edit: /var/log/messages: Code:

Try running memtest86+ and seeing if you get any memory errors...

30 minutes of memtest86+ shows no errors, however I will run a more extensive test tomorrow.
If it is of any relevance, now I noticed this getting dumped to the terminal while starting starccm+ Code:
java.net.UnknownHostException: Bauer: Bauer at java.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost(InetAddress.java:1354) at org.netbeans.CLIHandler$1.run(CLIHandler.java:559) at org.openide.util.RequestProcessor$Task.run(RequestProcessor.java:602) at org.openide.util.RequestProcessor$Processor.run(RequestProcessor.java:1084) Another 2-hour test gives no errors. I had to install my new machine (i7-2600) and tried different Linuxes. Here are my observations:
Ubuntu 10.04: ccm+ works but very slow, starcd crashed Suse 11.3: ccm+ crashed (as described above) but starcd workes and also fast Suse 11.1 and 11.2: both codes work and also with the expected speed. Last edited by JBeilke; January 27, 2011 at 03:05. |

Ubuntu was about half the speed compared to Suse running on 1 and also on 2 cores. Probably something went wrong with the installation. But since StarCD (v3 and v4) did not really run I did not try to resolve the other problem.
