Default Overset Mesh Restart

Hi all,

I have been having an issue restarting my simulation using the .sim simulation files that I have stored at regular intervals.

I loaded the simulation .sim file at my latest time that I stored and try to run it and I get the error immediately:

--------------------
Found Inactive Faces in Region "Tunnel" . This might be due to too fine or too coarse mesh or due to an overlapping of overset regions.
Command: RunSimulation
CompletedCommand: RunSimulation
Slave Message:
Slave Name: Proc[0]
Slave Rank: 0
error: Server Error
--------------------

Then I found that I cannot use any of my previously saved .sim files to restart my simulation from that point of time on.

I am running on 4 processors and I did not have such a problem when I did not use overset meshes. But this simulation has an overset mesh and I am having trouble restarting my simulation with my saved .sim files and I always get the above error when I use 4 processors. When I restart it in 'serial' on 1 processor, my simulation diverges and I get a floating point error.

I am not sure why this happens. Any help or ideas appreciated.

Thanks,
Sai.

The error normally happens when the background mesh has relatively finer mesh compare to the overset region.
I suggest you make sure that wherever the overset region moves, it always have better or same mesh quality with its background and make sure there is enough mesh between the overset boundary and the body inside.
Best if they have the same size to minimize the interpolation error, but whenever this is not possible, make sure the overset has smaller size than the background.

I hope this help
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. The problem is with the restarting of the simulation. The simulation runs fine if left running. But if I have to restart a saved sim file it wouldn't run.

The solution was to delete all interfaces except the overset interfaces. Once I delete the interfaces, the simulation not only runs fine as before, but I can also restart it correctly. Not sure why this occurs though.
