Hi, I'm an engineering student assigned a project that would have me use Star to simulate wind flow over various terrain. I'm fairly new to Star.
[EDIT] I can use matlab to get the data in terms of xyz into a .csv file. I can then import it as a sketch using a 3D polyline. Unfortunately Star doesn't like the sketch and won't extrude from it. I was hoping somebody would be able to help. Any advice appreciated! Last edited by lint; March 5, 2014 at 20:25. |

Try to convert it into a surface from the values you have. That should work.

My problem is quite broad. If i had access to solid works i can easily import scanned point cloud data and then save it as a solid object (.step or .x_t) that can then be imported into star.
I can convert these points to a surface in matlab and then export as an .stl but neither Star or solid edge (the CAD i have) accepts these. I've successfully converted this to a step and iges file formats using FreeCad but star still doesn't like them. I was told that you can somehow separate lines of coordinates so that they are imported as separate curves, which can the be lofted to a surface but i haven't figured how to yet. |

STAR-CCM+ will import STL files.
