Default Prevent Surface Mesher from Filling in Hole

I have a hole in my geometry that needs to be maintained. Can anyone advise how to prevent the surface mesher from filling it in? I am using the surface remesher.

Also, the reason for this geometry is I am trying to model a pipe's gas discharge into the surrounding air. However, I need an inlet boundary for the pipe. I was originally planning to have the pipe inlet start in the middle of the air continuum, but I wasn't sure if I could have an inlet boundary "floating" in the middle of my air continuum. (Hence my current sub-par "solution" to cut out a section of the air continuum from the domain altogether.) If I could then this hole would not be needed. Would it work to have an interface between my pipe's inlet and the surrounding air and just uncheck the enabled box for the interface? Or would I just delete the interface altogether? I'm not sure if either of those options would work.

Thanks,
Jonathan

edit: I didn't want to make a new thread, but does anyone know how to disable the reversed flow message from occuring in the output window? In my scenario I think reversed flow is acceptable as the large cube of air surrounding my pipe's discharge will likely have some air flowing in reverse, back into it.

I don't really understand the issue. If you have a pipe you're simulating into the air, why don't you just have a pipe sticking up through the bottom of the domain? It would be a really simple geometry, just a cylinder and a box.
