Default Clipping geometry

hi. In Star-CCM+, I created a cylinder in part and I displayed it in Geometry scene. After two clip planes, I end out with a 1/4 of the cylinder being displayed (see attached picture). I would like to do the reverse, e.g. display 3/4 but not 1/4 of the cylinder. How can I do that? Thank you in advance.

it takes more work but instead of clip plane, create a local cyl coordinate, create a derived part --threshold, your input part is either the entire region or boundary, use local coordinate, 0-270 deg. Use this threshold in your scalar scene

Hi. Thank you for the advise.
I tried the steps but it did not work.
The threshold is not shown in my scalar scene although I have chosen it as part in my scalar scene.

usually when you cant see the threshold in a scalar scene, that means the threshold does not contain any surfaces or cells, perhaps with the scalar scene open go back to the threshold and right click for edit and make sure it was created properly

simple checks,
make sure representation is set to volume mesh
sometimes old scenes get messed up, trying creating a new scene and input the threshold

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply.
I know why the threshold cannot be displayed just now. It was because I did not create volume mesh. After creating the volume mesh and following the steps you described, I now got the treshold. However, as you can see from attached picture, the edges of threshold are following the edges of mesh (which means that I cannot have a nice cut of 1/4 of my cake). Is there anyway to improve the situation?

Yes it is too bad you cannot assign a clip plane to a displayer, than you could have two displayers using two different clip planes,

if you use trimmed mesh it is not too bad, I see you use poly though,

Perhaps this is a silly question but if you only need to show geometry, why don't you just make that geometry? It's a pretty simple one.

Hi. Thanks for your advise. I created a 1/4 of the cylinder and used it to perform boolen substraction operation the full cylinder. With this methods, I can create a scene with 3/4 of the cylinder in parts.

I am thinking of extending this method to create a cut-away view of a machine (I have the CAD step file) so that I can visualize the components inside. However, it seems that boolean operation can only work on closed manifolds and it is not so straight forward to create a cut-away view in Star-CCM+. I would like to know whether there is a more straight forward methods to create cut-away view in Star-CCM+.

Well if you can do 1/2 of the geometry clipped and 1/4 of it, you can combine the two to create a 3/4 model

Hi. Thanks the great suggestions.

The clipped planes in attribute is applied to the whole geometry scene and you can choose whether you want to ignore clip or not in each displayer under the same geometry scene. Therefore, 1/2 clipped geometry and 1/4 clipped geometry have to be created separately in different geometry scene. Then I have difficulty to combine two geometry scenes into a single one in Star-CCM+. It might be able to export two geometry scenes as pictures and then combine the two pictures in software like photoshop.

maybe you could for 1 scene, right click and "create scene image annotation" and than bring that annotation into the 2nd scene, just need to bring it into the right position,
