Me again!
Safe to say this project is driving me crazy at this stage ;-) I've recently upgraded to STAR 12.02 from STAR 11.xx after encountering a strange issue where my simulation wasn't meshing correctly on my home system (running 11) but worked fine on University systems (running 12) I'm using the University license server through a VPN. I've encountered a strange issue however, I can only create and load serial simulations, and any new process is by default named 'J' as opposed to the usual 'Star X' - Now I know '-j' is often used in Linux to define a parallel process so I can't help by wonder if this is related. Either way, any attempted parallel process is met by this error. The only information provided is the first few lines: mpirun: Drive is not a network mapped - using local drive. Unable to start STAR-CCM+. Extra file specified. Check arguments and their order. The remainder of the error is just an explanation of the possible command arguments available. At this point it is probably worth stressing that I'm using the default arguments associated with a parallel process, the same as was used on this machine with STAR 11 and on the University machines presently: starccm+ -server -cpubind -rsh ssh -np 8 As I said, I've had STAR 11 on this PC for over a year now with no issues so am rather stumped at this stage! Any ideas would be appreciated! |

Is that the complete command you give? The error seems to indicate otherwise. Why are you using the -server flag without specifying a sim file?

Hello again me,
Yes I am loading a Sim File, I just didn't think it relevant to include that as I thought it a tad redundant seeing as I am trying to load a Sim. But yes, I agree, it's as if STAR thinks I am typing something somewhere that I shouldn't, but I have no idea what that something is, seeing as everything worked perfectly on STAR 11 and works perfectly on STAR 12 when I'm on campus systems. |

Is this on Linux?
I would check starccm+ isn't aliased to something else. Or try running the command with the full path specified. Don't put extra flags, so try running: /opt/path/etc/etc/etc/starccm+ -np 8 -rsh ssh simfile.sim -server I have never seen new processes launched as "J", so I suspect someone from IT has played with the runscript/mpiexec for whatever reason. |
