Hi there,

I have worked in 3D CFD (IC Engine application) for about 3 years. I got a chance to work in 1D (GT Power) in my new job. I took it! I have a few questions now. I would be grateful if someone could help me get it right.

1. Does GT solve using FVM/FDM? Manual doesn't say much on numerical techniques.
2. Does GT-SUITE come under "CFD" as a whole? I've seen people use '1D thermodynamic simulations' term for it. Furthermore, I don't see a GT-SUITE forum on cfd-online!
3. My company is a tire 1 supplier. They don't seem to have a proper test data. Is input requirement in 1D is way bigger when compared to that of 3D?
4. I am a little tensed because of the tremendous data requirement. They don't have a 3D software here. As mentioned above, they don't even do a flow-bench tests that gives me the flow and swirl coefficient data. Could you please tell me if there are ways to "assume" data and "tune" the models (in general, not specifically for the swirl)?

Thanks in advance!

Dear conv2gt,

"Flowmaster" is also a 1-D-CFD-code and I tried to establish a "Flowmaster"-Forum at CFD-Online- without success...

Maybe we could start the conversation right here.

Not a bad idea. But nothing answers my questions!

1. GT does not use FVM or FEM
2. all the "1D" commercial software could technically fall under CFD by definition of CFD but it is a very different world then what is done in Ansys fluent or star ccm for example. Most of what is done in GT, flowmaster etc is "system simulation"
3. test or bench data is pretty essential for validation in ALL simulations (1d 2d 3d system level)
4. There are plenty of ways to tune a model that is not capturing 100% of the real physics or geometry by modifying coefficients of the empirical equations or adding in sources or sinks

I would love to see a GT forum pop up. I think the user base is definitely large enough to warrant it.

hi, everybody

i have an specific piston IC engine with known condition, i want to know how much its emission? does GT do this analysis? if your answer yes, please guide me. if your answer NO, please suggest me solution to do this analysis.
