Hi all,
with there being plenty of options to visualize the heat transfer and heatflux between a fluid and a solid, I have been working to find a way to visualize the heat being transported through (forced) convection in a homogenous fluid (Helium). For my bachelor thesis, I have done some calculations of ribbed cooling channels with Fluent using the linear pressure strain RSM and enhanced wall treatment. These channels experience a very high thermal load on one side and pervious work has shown that V-shaped ribs are beneficial for an increase in heat transfer due to induced secondary flow structures. A comparison of different types of ribs with varying rib heights has shown that lower rib heights do not result in a drop in local Nusselt-Numbers, leading to the assumption that the heat transfer within the fluid is about the same for different rib heights. This would mean that stronger secondary flow features with higher ribs do not result in a stronger temperature diffusion within the fluid, or that the increase is negligible. Fluent uses a certain form of the energy equation for the RSM, that incorporates the eddy diffusivity model to model turbulent heat transport. With turbulence and conductivity accounted for in that equation, how can one actually visualize the heat being transported with the moving fluid? Thanks a lot in advance!
