hi,
i'm modelling a flow of water through 1.5 m long and 4" diameter circular pipe. the geometry it self is simple pipe however the flow is multi-phase with particles thus the mesh quality is very important. i have created the mesh in fluent as attached. is my mesh of a good quality? especially the inflation? how can i reduce the big difference between the inflation elements and the tetrahedrons? the orthogonal quality is 0.28 min and 0.99 max with 0.914 average. the skewness is 0.3631e-04 min, 0.798 max and 0.158 average aspect ratio is 1.1678 min, 16.9 max and 3.9 average what can i do in this case to improve my mesh? how can i confirm that this is a structured/non-structured mesh? thank you in advance |

The orthogonal quality is good enough and the low skewness is due to the boundary layer.
You can make the mesh elements small by imposing a lower maximum element size. |

Hi, Did you try Hexa mesh?
(Mesh > Insert > Method), then Let's see in Method Ch, Change Automatic to Multizone so your mesh become to hexa. hexa mesh is better than tetra I belived that, and also use less than grid to reached quality result. (if compare with equal number of tetra grid) let's try it. Good luck |

i manged to improve the quality by reducing the maximum cell size, reducing the growth rate of the cells and increasing the number of divisions at the inflation layer. although the mesh size increased however the quality of the mesh especially at the wall was highly improved |
