Hello all!
I'm new to the complete software family, I want to use it for masonry modelling. I wanted to do some tutorials, like creating a solid and put some force on, etc. , just to see how it work. I'm using Ansys Workbench 17, student version, on Win 8.1 64 bit. I can change and set up the engineering data, but the design modeller don't let me draw anything, I can start drawing a line, but can put "down" the end of it. And I can't import geometry from other programs (Autocad 2016), because : "The selected file is of an unsupported or unconfigurated geometry type". I have a little sign in the lower left corner. It's a check in workbench, but when I open up design modeller to make the geometry modell, I see a little red sign, like the "no entry", I attached a picture of it. Thank you in advance, Garab |

Do you have a DesignModeler license available? Usually that "No entry"-sign indicates that there is no license at the moment.

You are right, that as I see, I don't have the license for DM. I simply have to link it, or there is something else? It was written, that nearly everything is usable, only limitation is that there is a limit of usable elements, or I'm wrong? |

you can use most of the things including making geometry and importing geom.
Try to re-install license manager and link the license. |

Installed Ansys on three different PCs, still not working. For the student license you don't use the license manager, at least this is how I understood the instructions - you just set a variable for a license file. http://www.ansys.com/Products/Academic/ANSYS-Student |

I have downloaded the license file again and set a new direction.
Without the file Ansys does not start in the first place, so the location and the variabel seems correct to me. Maybe a bad license file provided by the Ansys servers? |

on you computer there will be a utility under programs<ansys
"Server ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility" click that and see what it is telling you. You can also see how many licenses you have and if its working. |

You must have license at server location.
When loading your Ansys you have to give that server location for license. I think thats what is missing |

I downloaded the file again from the Ansys website, unpacked the zip at the desktop and copied to c:\program files\ansys inc\ but this time I was asked if I would like to copy the file as admin, which I did. Not it works just fine. You actually saved my master thesis. |
