FSI Solid mesh only one element thick?

Here's the situation:
I am simulating an internal flow. I have a volume mesh for my fluid domain, but only have a surface defining the interface between my fluid and solid domain. Luckily, my solid domain is the same thickness everywhere. So, I pulled the interface surface into an ANSYS transient mechanical module in workbench and applied a thickness in the details menu of the Geometry branch of the tree (within Mechanical). Then, I created the mesh. As you can see, the mesh only has one element in the direction normal to the surface? Is this because mechanical is assuming I'm using a shell type element here and those, by definition, are only one element thick? I also tried to open the DesignModeler and apply a thickness to the surface here. I used the Thin/Surface tool to apply the thickness here, but there was no change to my mesh results. Is my only option to go all the way back to a CAD program and create a solid from this surface by offsetting? Any help will be appreciated! |
