Hi,

I am new to CFX and am having a few problems! im looking to set up an oscillating flow in a circular pipe but im not sure about the best way to go about this? was looking at using an expression to create oscillating flow at the inlet? any help would be greatly appriciated...

Hi,

This should work but you should consider first exactly how the flow is REALLY being excited. Is an oscillating inlet condition a good representation? You may need a moving wall, or maybe an oscillating gravity vector will work OK. It all depends on what you are trying to do.

Can you describe what you are trying to do a bit more?

Im trying to simulate high frequency oscillatory ventilation conditions(HFOV- type of mechanical ventilation used on patients) which causes gas exchange to occur in the trachea of humans. At the moment im just modelling a simple straight circular tube. I am trying to get air which is entering at one end to have an oscillatory motion as it passes through the tube. Ho0pe this explains it a little clearer.

Hi,

In that case you probably can excite the flow with either an oscillating mass flow or pressure. Choose whichever you have better data for.
